About 2:00 this afternoon I saw two V-22 flying north at a pretty low altitude over Dearborn Michigan. The sound is unmistakable!

At exactly 0900 this morning, a flight of four C-47s passed overhead at about 2,00 feet in a perfect diamond formation, headed north to south, probably going to or from a Patriot Day flyover. I didn't have my glasses on so I was unable to make out details. Three were in D-Day livery, and the "slot man" was in light grey and looked like it might have been the CAF's R4D-6S, "Ready 4 Duty". Even with my blurry vision, what a sight! And the sound! It was glorious! But, then, reality came back and hit me.
On this 20th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, God Bless America and I pray that we never have to endure such atrocities again.

Too distant to be certain of their ID, but I saw three fighters around noon today heading west over town and turning south towards Palm Springs. Looks like it was two Mustangs and a Kingcobra for the 9/11 commemorative flight per the PSAM.

You must be 2 minutes north of downtown Grapevine! Yep, that was a 9/11 memorial flight over the American Airlines flight crew memorial; the lead ship was CAF "That's All Brother", left wing was "Southern Cross", right wing was the Cavanaugh C-47, and #4 slot was indeed the CAF R4D. We had a window of 0900-0905 to be over Grapevine Main Street, we were overhead at 0902. It was a beautiful morning to fly, relatively cool, clear and calm. I'll try to nail the timing better next time...

So, we just stepped out of the car in the parking lot at Niagara Falls today, and I heard serious engines; definitely multi, but couldn’t hear any radial “warble”. Then, through a break in the clouds, we see the CWH Lancaster at full climb power - what a great welcome! Falls were nice, too.

The B-29 "Doc" is at Chino now. Should be there a few days I think.

Lovely!
Few years ago I was walking along the River Thames to the east of London with some friends. A distant vague grumble became apparent - "sounds like the Lancaster" said I. Lots of scoffing from my friends. A few minutes later we heard it again and then were treated to a distant view. Very distinctive noise, rather different to four Spitfires or Mustangs.
Had a lovely view of the UK's DH-90 Dragonfly a couple of days ago - one other survivor, airworthy in New Zealand. I think ours was a US resident for a number of years.

The B-25D "Grumpy" was out for a long training/currency flight today.
The crew went down to Lewiston where they had lunch.
The captain said showing up in a B-25 makes you The "star" of the airfield...well anyplace except Chino or Duxford, I suppose.

It was part of the Tallmantz collection.
According to Jackson's
De Havilland Aircraft book in the Putnam series, It was flown across the Atlantic on its delivery flight.

Middle of last week: a USCG HC-27J on final approach to KUKI. Likely out of Sacramento. Never seen one before.

Around 4pm today, Fifi rumbled by my house headed back to Redbird from San Marcos, Texas.

This was not today. but...
While driving around Denver at the end of August I said to my wife... "that looks like a B-29 flying toward us", Just the though of being able to say that is a pretty cool thing. I love being surprised by War Birds, It turned and It was Fifi.. Pictures taken by my wife while I was driving so they are no great but we got them!
And a F-14 in Kansas, which I can't believe my wife got the picture as we flew past...

Another day and another mission to Waco for Fifi. It would look nice with some fighter escort as it goes by my house
