WW2 Planes in South America

Hello

Do you all know what WW2 airplanes are still in South America? So far, what I know about are: 2 Corsairs in Argentina, 1 A-20 and 2 P47s in Brazil.

Hi,

Are you including museums? One of the airlines is supposed to be opening a major aviation museum this year. It includes a Corsair donated by P&W and a Spitfire donated my RR. A friend loaned me an airline magazine. I believe it is TAM airlines.

Doesn't Brazilian Government have several B-17s in Museum storage? I’d love to see a couple of those find their way “home” and back into the air.

Also there is the F4U-1 Birdcage that was bought and shipped here, what became of that and anything else the former owner had?

I believe the F4U-1 is in hteir Air Force's historic flight along with one of their own original P-47's.

The F4U-1 DOES NOT belong to the Brazilian Air Force.

TAM has several aircraft (including the Birdcage Corsair) in their collection; since the economic power they yield (through their aircraft purchases) is huge, they requested (requested??) on several opportunities, that as part of their airplane purchases, this or that warbird would be included in the deal. Sellers were more than willing to comply...

What follows, is based on a letter sent to me by a friend in Brazil:

"Mr. João F. Amaro, the President of EDUCTAM's Foundation, one of the founders of TAM Business Group, is a stubborn man, with absolute power
to decide what painting scheme the aircraft will get. And no one there is dumb enough to lose their jobs by questioning his decisions.

Examples:

They painted a DHC-1 Chipmunk on RAF livery, and painted the instrument panel on yellow. I can figure that RAF training planes had it painted
flat black.

The Chance Vought F4U-1 Corsair donated by Pratt & Whitney got a new paint scheme from USN's VF-17. I copied the color scheme from my
Tamiya's F4U1/2 "Birdcage" Corsair plastic kit and sent it to them.

On 3rd March 2001, I attended the official delivery ceremony and noticed that EducTAM's boss, Mr. João F.Amaro, ordered to paint the propeller hub and machine guns cap holes, bright yellow! I talked to the mechanics and they just saind "The boss thought the aircraft would look better if we painted these details on yellow."

What about those 3 "Ducks" that those missionaries had that were mentioned in a recent post??? Possibly broke down in some remote area??? Thanks, Rob

THose would belong to MAF.

Just recalled last time i was at the NA in kew, researching bellows presentation a/c, came across a letter stating that parts of crashed german a/c ( dornier / heinkel / Ju etc ) were shipped to bellows donator countries ( argentina/brazil etc ) for use in fund raising by the bellows foundation , so there maybe some german a/c bits out there somewhere in a scrapyard ?

A long time ago a friend of mine told me about a rumour of a B-26 marauder that was in Brazil pushed off in to the brush at one of the old WWII airbases ? anyone heard of that ?

I remember hearing a story of a crashed Martin B-26 that was laying on its back somewhere in Central America. No idea as to the condition of it, nor if it was a WWII crash or one of the civilian exec. conversions!
