FYI Matthias Dorst chose to discontinue this wonderful thread (here and on key´s forum as well) due to personal reasons. He has a lot of work (besides his regular daytime job), maintaining several homepages, FB sites, family and hobby. If you are interested to follow the work of Meiermotors however, there are 2 ways to stay in touch. One is MeierMotors Facebook page,

https://www.facebook.com/pages/MeierMot ... 90?fref=ts

the other one their homepage:

http://www.meiermotors.com/

both maintained, updated and filled with pics by Matthias Dorst. Though the information and pics on the homepage are usually better and more, it is in German only. Facebook site however is updated more often and in English.

I hope to help with this information.

Michael

Just for your info: Matthias recently restarted posting in the sister thread at keypublishing. If he plans to restart posting here, or when, I do not know. Just if you want to follow the ongoings in English over there, I thought you should know. At the moment they are heavily engaged in 3 Bf 109 G projects, the one for Jerry Yagen (got it´s newly done (by Vintage V-12) airworthy engine installed), and the G-6 and G-12 project for Hangar10. At the end of January Mike Nixon of Vintage V-12 will come to MeierMotors to check the finetuning of the DB 605´s of Jerry Yagen´s G, and Hangar10´s G-6. First flights of these 2 G´s are expected to happen soon after, if weather permits.

Michael

For those who´d like to follow Matthias´ thread at keypublishing, here´s the link:

P.S.: Last of his post were very nice pics of the newly installed engine, though you can see them on MM´s homepage and Facebook site as well....

As I do not know if Matthias will post here again, without wanting to steal his thread, I´d think you should know the following information:

Ex- Rudy Frasca´s Spitfire Mk XVIII TP280, D-FSPT had her "Maiden" (and some gear test) in Germany yesterday, 17.06.2015. Pilot was Achim Meier, video by Matthias Dorst. Enjoy the video!

I'm a little surprised - unless I've missed it - that the Yagen/FF Buchon>DB conversion's flight testing hasn't been mentioned! Facebook has a bunch of cool photos, as does Warbirds News: http://www.warbirdsnews.com/warbirds-ne ... again.html

hello fans and folks here we are again ...... what a busy year. Smashing news at first, the Messerschmitt Bf109 G-4 D-FOON belonging to the FighterFactory made it. Carlie Brown took her to the skies on 11th of August 2015 and he was deeply impressed - he compared the ship to the famous "Black 6" and that really an knightky accolade

Erik Meier responsible for the project checking the last time all those things - he was a little bit tensed

well done Sir - what a fantastic pilot ! ..... btw. as they asked him how the first flight was, he answered in his special manner "I was delighted"

inflight shots with Achim Meier at the controls of Harvard Mk.IV D-FXXX - on the backseat Ondra, one of the sheetmetalspecialists and hobby photograph. Not bad for his first A2A I think

12th of August 2015 - Achim Meier took the chance and took some A2A shots from the Harvard Mk.IV D-FXXX with team member Ondra on the backseat. It was a thing of minutes "come on we take some pics" , small camera in the hand and scrambling the Harvard ---- yes, they are a bit crazy those MeierMotors guys - but it worked !

Well that was something for the heart and soul - 10 years of work finished, really a milestone.

What a project ...... the list of the involved people is impressive :

Gerald Yagen and the Fighter Factory crew Virginia

Mike Nixon und José Flores - Vintage V12´s in Tehachapi California

Craig Charlston and Airframe Assembly in Essex / Great Britain - fuselage cone parts

MT Propellers (Muehlbauer) they restorey the propeller hub and buildt a set of wooden propeller blades. Yes the original one had metal blades, but to save the super rare engine by groundcontact, its better to use wooden ones

LBA Stelle 3 und 4 - official buerau like the FAA

Herrn Dipl.Ing. Stuetzle - former Chief engineer of Dornier Aircraft - he made all those main calculations, security calculations, and such things for the fuselage an wings

Beratungsdienst von Herrn Dipl.Ing. Werner Horvath - he wrote the necessary "Pilots Operation Handbook"

Peter Reisacher Metallbau - restoration shop for all those bits and specs, ballbearings, metal fittings

Thomas Jülch and Herr Crass - parts and support

Professor Madelung - Messerschmitt Stiftung - for his fantastic support. What a man, what a knowledge. Never forget his sentence about the Buchon "Gentlemen, Willy (Messerschmitt) and myself, we lend a hand in Spain for the last modifications after the war. The Buchon was the best Gustav ever"

Flt Lt Charlie Brown - Testpilot

Technical advisor was the former Luftwaffe Ace Hans-Ekkehard Bob. He provided tons of informations about fieldmodifiactions, flightcharacteristics and so on, which you could never read in any handbook. Sadly Ekkehard Bob passed away 2013 .... hope he could manage to view the maiden flight of "his" one-o-nine from above in the clouds - Horridoh

some words to the origins of the project

Gerald Yagen ordered MeierMotors in 2005/06 to restore a Bf109 G model. At the same time the well known Yagen Flugwerk FockeWulf Fw190 was delivered to the MeierMotors shop based at EDTF. Around 2006 the first parts from the One-O-Nine were delivered to Freiburg, together with a Buchon airframe. The Buchon airframe was used to "understand" the airframe and construction and to get that huge collection of original plans readable (hard to explain). Lets call that airframe "Backup".

The One-O-Nine was listed with the works-number 19257. That G-4 model made an emergency landing at the Russian frontline after some hits in the oil-radiator. The pilot Victor Petermann survived the belly landing and walked back to his squadron. He made it in 4 days and was sent to hospital cause of dehydration and exhaustion. This happened in June 1943. He survived the war with 550 missions and 64 aerial kills over the eastern front. Petermann passed away in 2001. Somehow, the wreckage of his 109 was salvaged and later purchased by Gerald Yagen. This wreckage was the basis for that long lasting restoration project. Later in 2014, the Buchon airframe was sent back to the FighterFactory. Sadly, the Buchon is not really in a good shape, but would also give a fine project.

Also very interesting is the history of that used DB605 engine. As you might know, its a A-engine used in twin engined aircraft as the famous Bf110. Will say, that engine is having a different gearbox than the pure fighter engines. However, we write the 28th of April 1944 as a top secret nightfighter was intercepting a Lancaster over the Lake of Constance. The tailgunner made a good job and shot one engine of the nightfighter in fire. Johnen, commander of that Bf110 G-4 "C9+EN", broke away and landed his deadly injured nightfighter in Duebendorf Switzerland. That Bf110 was equipped with the latest radar-equipement. To make a long story short, Switzerland got 12 brandnew Messerschmitt Bf109 G-6 as consideration not to give the radar equipment to the allied forces. C9+EN was destroyed by swiss troops, but not the engines. They where removed a spareparts for the coming Gustav-fleet. Well, one of those two engines were delivered in 2012 to the MeierMotors shop. The DB605 was in pretty good shape and he was complete with all those attachementparts. Talking with Mike Nixon, the wrong gearbox produces lower RPM as the fighter gearbox, but that does not matter. The airframe of the D-FOON is lighter than in wartimes and also the manifoldpressure is nowadays lower than used in wartime. With a pressure of normally 1,1ata there is no difference noticable. So the team decided not to change to the fighter gearbox, because of the perfect condition of the gearbox.

The often discussed radiator housing of the lower cowling - well, thinking about Virginia, its better to restore a socalled "trop"-version  After some research the team found some photodocuments of Bf109 G-4 "trop" using the big radiator housing of the later G-10 version. That was the solution for perfect thermal condtions for that rare powerhouse. Of course another lower cowling with the smaller radiator housing is restored too.

Sadly (for me of course) the Bf109 will leave the MeierMotors shop soon. The fighter will be disassembled and shipped to the proud owner Gerald Yagen in some days. So not very long and the beauty will paint some contrails in the Virginia skies

but there are not only those Messerschmitt fighters in the shop. Nearly unnoticed a wonderful North American P-51 made it in the shop. The well known P-51 Mustang "Flying Dutchman" was delivered in the shop. The Mustang was provided by a private German owner at the beginning of the year 2015. The fighter is undergoing some minor restaurations and shortly a re-maiden over South Germany is planned.

small update concerning the Messerschmitt G-12 project for the Hangar10 collection. The huge canopy is nearly ready, but some work left. The engine fotr that project is under restoration at Vintage V12´s. This time its not a Mercedes Benz DB605 ;) its the licence product manufactured by Volvo used in the Saab J21. A fantastic engine, beautiful manufactured.
