Thats an ex Forrest Protection? bird. It's been for sale for awhile. It's still in water bomber mode. If I remember right, the new owner (current owner) has the TBM specific type of goodies. If not, Forrest Protection does have all of them available.

Jack,

if this is an old firebomber, then the question becomes how much sheetmetal will need to be replaced due to corrosion ? The older fire retardents were very corrosive to aluminum structure. And some of these old TBM's were used as bug sprayers. I worked on one where even to this day it still reeks of the bug spray smell. Even all that being said, if one were willing to put some effort into it and find some volunteer help that can do structure work, I am sure the old girl can fly happily ever after again. Even at $120,000, sounds like the engine is in pretty good shape given that the notes says 183hrs SMOH. That is huge as far as the expense side goes. The only bad parts would be the avionics package, prop, gear legs, and hydraulics, if those were high time items, then the cost is abit high for a restoration.

Thoughts ??

Paul

Probably cheaper to buy one of the completely restored jobs Courtesy is selling. I bet it needs at least 100K in restoration work to get it airworthy and back to wartime config. I am surprised how flat the TBM market is. But then after learning the insurance price ranges and being able to guess at operating costs, I guess it shouldn't shock me.

Are Skyraiders so much more desirable that they command twice the price as a TBM, or is that a factor of A-1s rarity?

another great advantage of a TBM is that u can stuff 3 (or 4?) passengers inside, a feature that any other single engine warbird that I know has. U could share it with 3 good chaps and operating her wouldnt be THAT expensive!
Ok, I want a TBM now! :D

Are we sure that it is a former borate bomber, as I thought Didier Chable was involved with AMPAA in France. In which case it could be this plane! http://francewarbirds.free.fr/en/avenger.html
