Story goes; the owner of the B-17 Desert Rat wants to restore it eventually but would rather trade for components to aid the restoration of the B-17. :drink3:

Why didn't the CF rebuild the A-26?

To the best of my memory, yes. I was involved with her in the Cotton Jenny" days, sure is sad to see her that way.

What the heck did they do to it? I mean I know it had the accident, but they just dumped it off?

It's been a while, but if memory serves, Kellner bought the salvage from the insurance co.

Are there any recent photos or news about how the Desert Rat is coming along?

on the 'progress' part.., from the two photos above.. one taken in August 2011 and the other in August 2010.. you tell the difference?.., I would say 'not much'

Not complaining.., not much funding going around and this is a very small organization taking on an enormous task.., maybe to big of a task.., but a concerted effort none the less.

Best of luck! :drink3:

Chicago's Museum of Science & Industry is always a great place to visit. Thanks for the photo of the ultra rare Ju 87, one of only 2 intact examples left in the world if my memory serves me correctly. The Ju-87 and the Spitfire are so much easier to view now that the museum lowered them to eye level when you are on the second floor.

I give Mike and his team credit, last I heard the restoration of his B-17 is strictly out of pocket. Maybe I'll go there soon and volunteer a week or so of my time helping with the restoration :drink3:

They do have quite a task ahead of them. But, the project has come along way from when I saw it sitting outside a few miles away at Galt Airport approx 15 years ago or so.

Unfortunately I don't have any current photos of the Desert Rat, but we are currently concentrating on the interior of the cockpit area and finishing up the horizontal stabilizers and the vertical fin.

Kudos, many, many Kudos on the job done to date and the daunting task at hand.

Certainly wish we all had the funding to assist you.., but we are there in spirit..

Many, many thanks!!!!!
