Heavy Bombers at Anoka

This weekend the Collings Foundation stopped at Anoka at American Wings. On Saturday morning my Father and I went for a ride on the B-24, which I must say looks great in its new paint. It was a great flight, for those of you who haven't flown on a bomber, the experience is nearly impossible to put into words, suffice it to say it is worth every penny and then some. After takeoff we did a 270 and flew parallel to runway 27, which was the last area of familiar territory we flew over the entire flight.

Bet you still have a Big Grin on your face! Very nicely composed shot of
the Mohawk and the '17!! The Blue Angels A-7 looks interesting...
Do they have the rest of the N3N to go with the float?

Thanks airnutz. Based on my experience with the B-25 last year, the grin takes about a week to fade.

I'm not sure what the story behind the A-7's paint job is, the insignia on the tail says Naval Air Reserve Center Minneapolis. Here is a shot from Saturday:

The N3N is in the museum, currently undergoing some work, since I didn't have a tripod, here are a few shots of it from back in May.

So a quick sliding grin-scale might suggest...2additional engines=2
weeks of grin in the forecast! Thanks for the added photos. Maybe one
of the experts will know the story behind the A-7. Thanks Dan!

Did the Cargills have the B-25's out at Anoka this weekend?

I drove up to Grand Rapids, so I missed the Anoka show...sucks because I live about 8 blocks from Janes Field.

The A-7 looks very much like one that was on a pedestal on the east side of I-75 a little ways north of Gainesville, Florida. It was at a small, private strip. Haven't been down that way in quite a while. so don't know if it's still there.

You didn't mention it, so I assume you weren't on the flight that had problems with the #4 engine. From what I heard, they came in with #4 feathered late Saturday afternoon (or early evening).

They were working on #4 throughout Sunday and the last I heard was that it won't be back in the air until Tuesday or Wednesday.

Anybody got any details on what the problem was?

Paul, there were a few vehicles at the Cargill hangar, but nothing was outside.

mjanovec, the first I heard of the problems was when one of my coworkers mentioned it this morning. My father and I were on the first flight Staurday morning and all was well, in fact it was probably the smoothest flight I've ever been on. I didn't make it back out on Sunday.

HI THE B-24S #4 ENGINE, THE ROD BEARINGS FAILED :cry:

IT WAS REMOVED TODAY AND IS WAITING FOR THE NEW ENGINE TO ARRIVE.THE A-7 WAS FLOWN INTO MSP IT WAS IN A WHITE/DAY-GLOW ORANGE SCHEME,IT HAD TEST ACROSS THE VERTICAL STAB IN BLACK! :shock:

IT WAS REPAINTED BY THE NAVY RESERVES IN ITS NEW/ODD SCHEME,

THEN TOWED TO ITS CURRENT LOCATION.IT CAME FROM N.A.S POINT MAGU.THANKS MIKE
