...not too far away..

...by 19xx NX1204 was reassembled and placed level on jacks with the gear up in front of Paul Mantz' "Flightarama" museum...

...shown here in June, 1961 after "Flightarama" closed...

...and awaiting construction of the "Movieland of the Air" building after Frank Tallman joined forces with Mantz...

Those are typical camera mounts for the era. the later image has the short mount under the right wing. Mantz used that or one very similar under his Boeing 100 as a camera mount also.

A couple of poor quality scans of 35mm slides, taken in the late '70s. Location, Criel, Northern France. I.G.N. B17s photographed surreptitiously from inside my dad's car, as they shared the airfield with the French Airforce.

To the left of the 1st photo can be seen two "hangar queens" mouldering away in the undergrowth. The far one, which can hardly be seen, I recall as still being in Olive Drab, and with the cheek gun windows still in place. Didn't have the courage to get out the car and take better pics!

...Hmmm...according to Baugher..N9394H was indeed a TBM mfg. by General Motors, not a TBF mfg. by Grumman

45445/46444 General Motors TBM-1C Avenger

TBM-1C 46122 registered in 1954 to Paul Mantz Air Services of Los Angeles, CA as N9394H and used for fireboming

Great news! I found one more photo from the Orange County Airport (CA) 1958-59. Note B-25, P-51 and L-1 in the background. I still remain amazed at the quality of the photos taken by my Argus C-3 35 mm camera over 50 years ago.

This Catalina is still extant in the UK (as N423RS) although not currently airworthy inasmuch as it is some considerable time since it took to the air. It is due to fly to the USA at some point on delivery to its current owners. Strictly it is not a Canso as it was not ordered on a RCAF contract but was in fact an ex-US Navy PBY-5A Catalina BuAer48423. That is not to say that Kenting didn't colloquially refer to it as a 'Canso' of course.

I'm not sure, but I think that "hangar queen" seen poking out from under the trees may be "Shoo Shoo Shoo Baby."
