Anybody know the mk number(s) that might be involved or if they were crated with engines and propellers? Not that the data plates aren't enough to get started  ... pop2

Thread at FF suggests these are not Burmese, but rather RAF...Mk XIV...shipped to Burma in 1945 in crates and buried before assembly.

But everyone knows the Brits aren't into late-war, Griffon-powered machines...they'll be up on ebay for 20,000 euros by Christmas.

The USAF did, however, recover a new P-38 in the early 50's from abandoned Pacific Storage for display here in the U.S..

Actually, there were three Zeros found wrapped up in the DM Boneyard, which were cataloged as Texans. They were shipped out on trucks to musuems, not flown out.

It's hard to stop laughing at some of these.

I'm beginning to agree with Adam. There have been too many different versions of this story in the British press in much too short a time. If the aircraft are there, they need to be recovered to Britain, at that point, I expect the condition will be somewhere between the plane found on the French beach, and the Spitfires recovered from India in the 1970's. Even an "undamaged" aircraft would still be a "kit" aircraft, requiring a total rebuild before it could possibly be flown.

Probably true - there have been guarded qualifications in the UK from some of the Spit experts there and G.I. results showing lumps of metal about fuselage length, about 30 ft long - enough to make it worth while doing an exploratory dig............and, even if they were originally crated aircraft, buried in the tropics for 60 yrs...... lumps of metal will probably sum it all up.

Still....we shall see.

Something isn't right... There's too many versions going around. We know theres boxes down there, but they have no clue what they are, so they may end up being tractors (or Amelia Earhart :D )

Daryl Greenamyer has accomplished more in Aviation that 95% of the people here added together. Cut the guy some slack for crying out loud. As for Kee Bird just get over it.
