Dismantling of Tutor CT-114177 at Mountainview

This past Monday and Tuesday (Aug 15 & 16, 2005) I had the pleasure of assisting Peter Whitfield his father Paul and his brother-in-law Brad dismantle tutor CT-114177 at CFB Trenton/Mountainview Detachment and prepare it for it's long trip by truck to The Nanton Lancaster Society Air Museum.

The aircraft was previously demilitarized and mutilated by DND and is now unfit for flight. The museum plans to pole mount the aircraft outside the museum.

Here are a few of the photos that I took.

Harold Carlaw and his son Dave just happen to be at Mountainview on Tuesday inspecting some of there recent acquisitions when we were tearing down 177. They have acquired nine tutors and plan to repaint them all as CF Snowbirds. They also have plans to display them all at an yet to be built airstrip on farm property that they are awaiting for approval on.

I also recently came across a very interesting article on Dave in the Toronto Sun.

Their plans sound very ambitious and I wish them all the best!

For anyone interested, here are a few more pictures of the Tutors and a CF-5 in storage at Mountainview.

When the time comes these tutors will become Snowbird team aircraft.
