42-82914 appears to be a number in sequence with production of primary trainers--PT-19--according to Baugher. I think the photo is slightly pixelized making the 9 appear to be an 8.

The photo of the two ground crew with the cockpit viewed up over the wing is showing ARGONIA (sailing ship nose art motif)...Col. Charles Young's plane leading 439 TCG on D-Day. I've never seen that pic before! Nice!

I'm doing some research, prior to reconfiguring the boss's DC-3 interior into something more like the C-47A it originally was. Does anyone have a source of information, or contact, that can tell me what the original (as ordered) equipment list was for a C-47A, given the serial number, factory number and/or contract number?

Damned you saved my life.. I am an idiot, I forgot to check Baugher serial numbers
On D-Day 'American Beauty' flew left wing of the SNAFU Special, piloted by 1st Lt Jay L. Solomon she was CN#90 in serial #15.
War diaries of the 441st TCG showed the serial number 42-92914 but the photograph made me anxious

Any idea of this plane of the 96th TCS with the SCR-717

You remember my list I sent of four and five sequential tail numbers? These planes were pulled off the line in small groups of four or five and equipped with SCR-717C. The crews were trained at the PF School, and those planes not kept at the School for teaching and combat operations were returned to the units to act as serial and element leads.

96 TCS is part of 440 TCG, so this plane was either in the same V as "42-92717" or an element leader....sometimes two SCR-717C planes flew in the same lead V.

I see on your excellent site that 42-100965 could be an element leader (?) on D-Day...Does the 440 parking diagram show her in the parking area for 96TCS?

This plane shows post-Normandy stripes, so the nose code could have changed...

If that is 965---MISS YANK--then it is the plane Krebs was flying when shot down on Market-Garden....he would have been in a SCR-717C plane on that mission too! This could be a picture of Krebs heading to Holland. Should be MACR 9908.

My list shows 42-100851, 964, 965, 967, 977 and 981 as either acting as PF on D-Day; serial or element lead on D-Day or active with PF School/Group after D-Day.

'Miss Yank' #42-100965 was the lead plane of the 96th TCS on D-day. Pilot was Captain William R. Cooper and she flew CN#19 in serial #16
She is also on the parking diagram at Exeter but there is no indication of squadrons on the diagram.

One thing is sure. 'Miss Yank' was equiped with a SCR-717 and if there was only one SCR plane by squadron, Miss Yank is the winner


Note also that the markings for the missions on the fuselage seems to be the same on the two pictures
