The only crash I know of near Lake Placid was a B-25 that went down in the Venus area. There was also a fighter that crashed in Lake Istapoga but it must have been salvaged at the time, because when they had a drought a few yers ago you could see the lake bottom on approach to Sebring. The Dove was about 70 yards from the water line.

Have any idea of exactly where the b-25 went down at? I'm going to be in lake placid in a few days and need something to do haha. As for the fighter could it have sank into the muck bottom of istapoga? I'm a archeological student at UA and you wouldn't believe what we've found sunk in muck/swamps we've even found a 1940s car. we just happen upon looking for native sites in the swamps

The deepest spot in lake Arbuckle is 12 feet. I have been there many times. You are probably confusing it with the Arbuckle Lake in Oklahoma.

The B-25 went down in Venus which is just south of Lake Placid. The fighter that crashed in Istapoga most likely was salvaged because they would have had to retrieve the pilot from the wreckage. I'm not sure of the type, but it was out of Page Field (Ft Myers)and they had P-39, P-40, and P-47's there.
