Great to see that the Tony is getting some work done.

We Just Recently had a new Fokker Dr1 https://www.facebook.com/FighterFactory/photos/pcb.1353757294710517/1353757244710522/?type=3&theater
and a SE5a http://imgur.com/gallery/yBNXK arrive at the museum. They are now in the Fighter Factory getting ready for display.

John, thanks for that very informative update. I should've PM'd you for details! Progress pics of the P-39 were recently posted on Facebook but for the moment I can't find them.

WOTP - thanks for the update!

I presume the Kingfisher will be in the wheeled configuration for ops at MAM Virginia Beach? While perhaps not the sexiest warbird, and looks worse with the wheels, I have been waiting for this one, and am really glad anytime we can see a nearly extinct type be brought back. Bravo.

Still hoping for a Stuka.....

As has been mentioned here in the past, and in some select publications, Paul Allen/the Flying Heritage & Combat Armor Museum is said to own Ju 87R-2 WkNr. 0875709, which was recovered in Russia near Murmansk in 1998, where it had gone down in 1942. FHCAM has openly requested any/all original engineering drawings and manuals pertaining to both the Stuka and the Jumo 211 engine. A few years ago, the original and complete Stuka at the Chicago Museum of Science & Industry, which also just happens to be a Ju 87R-2 variant as well, was lowered to the floor and 3D-scanned - the reason for which wasn't really revealed, and it has been believed that the work, at least in-part, was to benefit the restoration of the FHCAM Stuka. Also, a Jumo 211D (proper for the Stuka/a non-fighter type) engine was photographed in recent years undergoing overhaul/rebuild at Mike Nixon's Vintage V-12's shop. Although as far as I know nothing has been reported on as to its whereabouts, I wouldn't be surprised if the aircraft is in the same hands as those who restored FHCAM's Il-2 in Russia (at least that would be my guess). This sort of limited information/circumstantial evidence was all there was to find about FHCAM's Il-2 as well, back when it was under restoration, until the moment they let the news break that it had flown.

In a recent interview on the Wings Over New Zealand Show Pioneer's Paul McSweeny said yes, that's the plan at the present time. Makes sense...although it would be amazing to watch a Kingfisher fly from the water!

The day after the Mosquito Launch Spectacular Airshow I was fortunate to meet Mr Yagen. I asked him to pretty please bring a Stuka here for restoration if he ever got one. In answer to this he began to tell me about how he had a company in Germany that did his Luftwaffe types...

Very nice pics.

Any idea where the Sopwiths came from? Kits? Scratchbuilt?

I ask because I saw some folks at Osh year before last selling Sopwith kits that looked extremely accurate.

These guys: http://www.kipaero.com

The Sopwith 1 1/2 was built by the Aviation Institute of Maintenance in Atlanta. This aircraft was from scratch. They started the project in 2007 and it was finished and arrived at the museum just this past year. Unfortunately it wasn't ready in time to fly at the annual Biplanes and Triplanes airshow, but looking forward to seeing it fly here sometime soon.

The Sopwith Triplane was purchased at an auction in Alabama in May and it arrived at the museum in very late July. I'm pretty sure that it was also scratch built but, in September 1991. Unfortunately like the Sopwith 1 1/2 the Triplane also wasn't ready to fly at the airshow, but we were able to see them do some taxing with them at the very end.

In other news the new Dragon Rapide should be flying once it warms up again.

Thanks watchers.

I do hope they can get a pilot for the bf-109 for this May's show. Looking forward to seeing one fly.

Any other rumors?

Not really any rumors but, 2018 has a few things in store. Snoopy is planning on visiting the museum in late summer http://militaryaviationmuseum.org/snoopy_2018.html

i hope that it flies in it's original RAAF markings.....nice to see a kingfisher returned to flight.....but both projects are RAAF airframes i hope at least one fly's in it's original markings.

The Fighter Factory and Military Aviation Museum both had webcams on their websites. I would click on and see what's in the hangers , what's being worked on etc. Could see the Army and Navy hanger, both WW1 hangers, and now nothing. Is it a privacy matter or something else. Just wondering. Been to Warbirds Over The Beach 3 times and it's a great show and museum.

Yes, they've been down for some time now. I've heard that they are working on the webcams at least for the actual museum. Should be fixed with some upgrades to the website. Last time I talked to the fighter factory their website was still completely down and it was undergoing upgrades. The old website is now back up and my thinking is that when they fix the museums webcams, the fighter factory webcams will be fixed as well.

Just to give an update of things going on at the museum,

The 109 flew today so things are looking good for it to fly at Warbirds.

The museum has announced the "Summer of Flight". This will be where every Saturday May 26 - Sep 29 there will be a different aircraft that flies with some information about that aircraft as well. http://militaryaviationmuseum.org/events/summer-of-flight/

The Snoopy exhibit will be coming to the museum starting July 21st. http://militaryaviationmuseum.org/donations/snoopy-red-baron/

The first pieces of the Nissen Hut have arrived on site:
