According to an article that appeared in the May/June 1992 issue of Air Progress Warbirds International magazine, B-24J-150-CO 44-40238 was on display in Flandreau, South Dakota from 1947 until 1957 when it was sold to a scrap dealer for $1,500.00. As "Thunderbird", this aircraft flew an unknown number of combat mission with the 8th Air Force, 2nd Air Division, 14th Combat Wing, 491st Bomb Group, 852nd Bomb Squadron. It carried the aircraft code letters of "3Q-Q" and "3Q-Y". There are 6 black & white and 1 color photos of this B-24 included in the above mentioned article.

Anyone else with information on warbirds "bought" by local communities/groups etc please drop me a PM or post.
