That was outstanding. The music from The Great Escape and The Longest Day (don't recognize the piece in between) was a terriffic choice.

Thanks for sharing.

Yes, fantastic footage.

Might the in-between piece be part of the soundtrack from "A Bridge Too Far"?

The music in the middle is two cuts from "A Bridge Too Far". The first part is the Main March Theme, and the second is the Take-off cut from when all those C-47 take to the air!. It goes quite nicely!

Looks like a lot of footage from Thunderbolt and Memphis Belle, no?

T-bolt footage is definately from Thunderbolt. That footage was also used extensively in one of the best WWII movies ever, Fighter Squadron!

A lot, but not all of the P-47 footage is from "Thunderbolt". The 57th Fighter Group in Italy had Red Noses, as most US fighters did in the MTO.
The P-47's in the color shots with different nose markings are from, what I understand was, an unfinished color documentary about the 9th Air Force Efforts near the end of the war. It was decided not to finish the project as the war quickly ended and it was felt no one would be interested in seeing "more" combat stuff. Much of this footage was used in the movie "Fighter Squadron" and very little, if any, footage was used from "Thunderbolt".
Just a few years ago, the History Channel dusted off the original 9th AF footage and used it in a documentary about the Thunderbolts. I forget the title of the show, it was something like "Thunderbolt: Assualt on the Riech", but I've got the tape of it somewhere.
Blue skies,
Jerry

Wow ... that footage could easily serve as a highlight reel for the DVDs I sell. We've got a TON of that 9th AF footage on "The Ninth Air Force in Color".

Two pages - first one here: http://wademeyersart.tripod.com/id69.html

I also sell them on eBay. Seller ID "chicoartist".

If you like fighters, wait till you see what we've got in store for early next year (ETO and Pacific)! :D
