I guess I was wrong thinking that the aim of the modern era of the Warbird movement was accuracy, not telling stories. Maybe we should paint Witchcraft desert pink, as the story of the Ninth Air Force needs to be told, and no other flying B-24 out there is telling it.

You aren't "wrong". Isn't there room for both methodologies?

But "Diamond Lil" wore 9th AF desert pink for a long time. And the "Witchcraft" colors are going on 11 years now.

I think enthusiasts would really like to see the assembly ships get their due, don't you?

Come on fellas!

Everyone knows that to make it accurate for the air show crowds you need Olive Drab, Neutral Gray, Sharks Teeth, Invasion Stripes, Kill Marks, lots of them, A Pin Up dressed up in some sort of American Flag outfit, and she must look like she is about to sell you a beer, a few hundred sponsor names, Polished to a mirror shine and a nice big Tramp Stamp!

Now, get to painting!

While the overall majority of CAF aircraft seem to be painted in fairly acccurate markings, a few come to mind that fall a bit.... short in my opinion.

It gets my vote! Love that scheme on the 'cobra.

On both the CAF Wildcat and the P-40; would it be possible to just repaint one of the colors on them to make them more authentic? Someone missed the mark on the colors but a lot of money was donated by good people. Can the schemes be salvaged?

On the CAF P-40, a buddy of mine ALWAYS says "Why don't they (CAF) just paint the P-40N the correct shade of RED that Mike Dillon had it in when he owned it ? After all, IT WAS ONE OF THE FIRST NOTED Warbirds in the modern era of the "Up Coming" Warbird Movement, back then !!?? "

TBM Tony..I have to agree with you on this one. I remember as a kid, (I am 59 now) reading the 3 part series in Air Progress about him getting and restoring this P-40. I would like to see it back in that red scheme. Would also like to see the P-63 in the tri-color scheme shown in the pics on this thread.

I want the P-40N back in her early CAF colours to pay homage to all who invested time, money, expertise and history in that organisation..a tribute colour scheme..

My opinion on this is worth less than a cocktail napkin, but since the question was asked...

This isn't your average everyday P-63, it is a very unique airframe with a unique configuration and a noteworthy story all it's own. I'd vote for the NACA markings.

And with that, I'm off to see if I can track down a 1/48 P-63 kit to build the "creamsicle" that Mark posted because man, that's about as loud a scheme as you're ever going to see!

PS: You know, maybe the Collings Foundation should track down a P-63 and build it up as an actual "Pinball" aircraft to use at Bomber Camp... how much would people be willing to pay to fire frangible bullets from a B-17 or B-24 at an actual aircraft in flight?

What about the 4 or 5 P-63 projects that were sold to "World Wide Warbirds" ( Not sure if that name is correct ?) in Arizona with that chap from down under ?? Isn't he the one Kermit....
