has been declared excess and will be scrapped if it is not transferred to another approved/vetted USAF museum. Parts are also available from the aircraft for other approved/vetted museums.

Sadly, the USAF is downsizing their aircraft collections on display. This is happening at many USAF Museums and Heritage Centers. Can't save them all, but maybe save some pieces from them.

If no qualified museum comes forward then
The excess aircraft will be offered for sale at GSA surplus sales just like the recent C-119 and C-123 at Edwards. Before they are offered, they will be certified for
safety- no ejection seats, pressurized bottles etc and armament - no weapons, ordnance.

They will not be cut up before sale. Although some parts may be removed if they can be used on other museum aircraft. I believe the buyer has a limited time to remove aircraft from site. Usually they are worth more scrap metal value then the cost to move them. I hope someone gets them that will give them a good new home.

Over at the FlyPast forum the head of the International Helicopter Museum in the UK was bemoaning the fact they needed a H-21 and for some reason the NMUSAF wouldn't help then in getting aircraft. I know they'd like the H-34 or the '21 (they just got one from France but it's in sad shape).

Anyone know if the NMUSAF proactively contacts approved museums or if collections have to rely on second-hand info to learn of available airframess?

Not that I know of.
Once an aircraft is declared excess, then there is a one year wait period it determine if another USAF museum wants it, then it is available the other approved/vetted museums. As far as I know the USAF only monitors wants of USAF museums, not outside the system.

If the International Helicopter Museum in the UK wants them they would need to:
1. Be vetted/approved by the NMUSAF - to get this they would need to pay to have a NMUSAF staffer visit their site and meet certain requirements.
2. Pay all costs for moving the aircraft.
3. Have an approved long term plan to maintain the aircraft.

I've sent a message to the IHM as well as to a couple of museums in the region.
If no one takes her, I'd be willing to help financially if someone bids.
