Miss "Flying Tiger" ...

Not sure who the woman is but I believe that's Dick Rossi in most of the photos. I'd say these were taken for a Hollywood promotion of some sort at perhaps Van Nuys or Burbank c 1952 / 53

Not sure who this is or where, perhaps Van Nuys again.

Some of the fire bomber guys could probably explain these photos better than I
Photos state: "MD1-343 '64 'AIR ATTACK' L.A. FIRE DEPT VINTAGE AIRPLANE"

You talking about the car or Rossi standing next to Miss Flying Tiger? ;)

Looking at the SB2C and AT-6 / SNJ photos. They look stretched a bit. I should fix those correctly. Love to see them in color.

Holy cow - the first time I've ever seen a Helldiver in any sort of civil (non- NACA) scheme. And a shark mouth on a metal P-40, that's different

Apparently that SB2C NX67858 didn't have a long career - crashed at an airshow in St George's, Utah

I see what looks like a '65 Buick Special driving past that AJ Savage in one of the photos, so late 1964 is plausible for the date.

The Savage is an interesting airplane that doesn't get a lot of coverage. I wonder how many Savages were used as air attack ships, or any other civilian purposes. Anyone know?

Found this link to the Savage in the pic. Lost in 1967, so yes, mid 60's is about right

I'm pretty sure this was taken in Travel Town at Griffith Park in Los Angeles.

I remember seeing a Cutlass, Panther and a P2V there years ago, as well as some other artifacts, so it wouldn't surprise me they had a P-40 there at one time. Seems like they had a Zero and the POF Raiden came from there (unless the Raiden was misidentified as a Zero).

This P-40 was in the same town at the same time... http://www.warbirdregistry.org/p40regis ... 47369.html

Since then, several new vehicles have been added to the display, including an obsolescent Japanese “zero” fighter plane which was captured on a South Pacific island during World War II; and an ancient petroleum field fire truck, which was donated by the Shell Oil Company. And still more exhibits are being planned and will take their places of honor at Travel town in the near future, according to Frederickson, whose “pet project” has blossomed into a popular attraction for Southlanders and tourists of all ages. The unique facility is particularly a “Mecca” for transportation hobbyists.

Sixty-two years after Bill Frederickson’s wonderful idea; Travel Town is still open daily at 10:00 AM, free of charge. The "Japanese Zero" fighter plane has gone off to an air museum, but kids are still climbing in the cab of the majestic Southern Pacific 3025!

If that is Chesty Puller in the photograph being held, I wonder what the connection is?

I recall seeing at least two AJ Savages at the Van Nuys, CA airport circa 1962-63. They were painted white w/red trim.
