I believe that is Claire Chennault.

Definitely Chennault.

I drove a '65 Buick Special in high school, so that got my attention.

Went back and looked. Can't find anything that looks like one. Several first-generation Ford Falcons seem to be in evidence.

If you're talking about the light colored car in the left side of one pic, going away, that looks like a '63 Chevy, possibly/probably an Impala 4-door hardtop.

Pretty sure the blonde guy in the Miss Flying Tiger photo sequence is Erik Shilling.

Super awesome pics, Mark!

That's definitely Chennault and not Chesty Puller. Chesty had no affiliation with the AVG. Same great haircut, though.

I am sure the Savage pictures are at the south end of what was Lockheed, now Hollywood Burbank Pasadena Bob Hope and Others Airport.

The people (Wilson-King All American Airshows) are:

Bill Lear Jr. (P-38).
Cliff Hicks (AT-6).
Bob Wilson (Head Honcho).
Bernadine King (SB2C).
Don Hackett (AT-6).
"Wild Bill" Talbot (AT-6).

Photo shot at Fullerton, CA on June 10, 1947 according to the late Bill Lear Jr.

A couple of weeks later things ended bad for the All American Airshow group.

A teenage spectator, Dolores Woodbury, was killed at the Wilson-King Sky Show at the St. George Municipal Airport. Mrs. Joe White and her infant daughter were were also injured, when a light plane involved with the airshow experienced brake failure on landing and crashed into cars parked at the edge of the airfield. The pilot, Bernadine Lewis King, was also injured.

That is if you consider an SB2C a light plane...

According to Lear in his book the group left St. George ten steps ahead of a posse in the middle of the night. Airplanes were all painted red/ white/ blue.

Well,
- the SB2C in civilian colors is awesome, but I'm laughing thinking about someone doing aerobatics in it.

- the lovely "Miss Flying Tiger" is wearing a leopard suit.

- and I missed this thread back in May because it was my travel day to the Indy 500. :)

Warbird acro is warbird acro, what about it is laughable? No one was laughing when Frank Tallman did the Duck shows daily at Reno. The Helldiver had a landing accident, not an acro accident.
