Hi Wixers!
I have a UC-61K using the Hayes Brake System which runs on brake pucks pushed outward against the wheel by way or hydraulics. the system has an "expander tube" that looks like a small very thick inner tube that is attached to the brake assembly. Once you depress the brakes, the Brake master cylinder forces fluid into the expander tube, thus pushing outward force on the pucks....
It appears the HAYES D-22-26 expander tubes are extinct. I have tried all the normal channels ( A/C spruce, Fresno Air Parts, Aviall....) NO LUCK. I have asked the Fairchild Club web site for assistance, but have had no luck as of yet.
These fit the HAYES Brake system for Fairchild F24 and PT-19/23/26 series aircraft that runs the 6.50 X10 wheels.

Any help is greatly appreciated!
Jim C

I have heard of operators of much larger aircraft having expander tubes made for aircraft like the B-17 and B-24 etc. That would seem like an option but very expensive and would probably leave you with enough expander tubes for decades to come. No one would fault you for converting.

Don't know if the numbers match up, but Jay Wisler lists a NOS "Hayes expander tube brake assy" for the PT-19/-23/-26.

If you're planning on flying it, have you considered going with the Cleveland STC? It's still available.

Used to find these in the Oshkosh swap meet when I was rebuilding my L-5.

I am also looking for replacement tubes, pads and springs etc. Are there any of the stash in the photographs left?

Hi, Steve.

I have the brake pads (18 of them, I believe) as well as a similar number of the metallic spring thingies.

No expander tubes left, though.

Saludos,

Tulio
