Hawker Hurricane Mk.1 V7497 flew for the first time today in the UK, having been restored by Hawker Restorations. The aircraft is based on the recovered remains/identity of a Hurricane which briefly flew combat operations with 501 Squadron in the Battle of Britain before it was shot down over Kent in late September 1940. The next Hurricanes to look for to fly in the near future and years ahead (all under restoration to fly):

- RCAF 5708 at Ray Middleton's shop in Colorado, USA (former Lone Star Flight Museum example, and is set to be completed/flying next year - the aircraft is now owned by the Dakota Territory Air Museum (previously Texas Flying Legends))
- RCAF 5447 at Vintage Wings of Canada
- RCAF 323 at Hawker Restorations in the UK
- Z5207 at Kaelin Aero Technologies in Germany
- AM274 at FAST Aero in Belgium (project sold/imported from the US several years ago, but work on continuing the restoration forward to completion reportedly only just commenced earlier this year)
- BE505 undergoing conversion to two-seat configuration at Hawker Restorations in the UK

Yesterday, October 22nd, Terry Dieno's freshly restored P-51D Mustang 44-63350 ("Lou IV"), N51TK, successfully made its first test flight with Doug Rozendaal at the controls. Based in Saskatchewan, it doubles the number of flying Mustangs in Canada (the Vintage Wings of Canada Mustang had been the only one in recent years).

Also, the Commemorative Air Force's B-24A "Diamond Lil" is back up and flying again, following about two years worth of work. The aircraft is scheduled to attend Wings Over Dallas.

To continue to keep this thread as up-to-date as possible...

The Bf-109E G-CIPB (WkNr.3579) has been added to the list of flyers, having been test flown on November 2nd at Biggin Hill in the UK following more than a year of downtime due to engine work required following a test flight in June 2017 (prior to that, it hadn't been flown since 2010). Hopefully all is good now with the engine and the aircraft will be a regular flyer in the new year ahead.

Although it had never been removed from my list of flyers, the Hawker Hurricane Mk.IV KZ321 (previously CF-TPM in Canada, and G-HURY in the UK before that) also made its first test flights in Belgium this past Sunday. The aircraft is now registered in Belgium as OO-HUR. After being sold from Vintage Wings of Canada, the aircraft arrived in Belgium this past May, but the engine had been sent to Vintage V-12's for overhaul and was not available to be installed in the assembled aircraft until late September. Work on assembling and registering the aircraft took place at FAST Aero, located at Brasschaat Airfield in Belgium, which is the warbird restoration/maintenance hub of Belgium owned by the Vormezeele warbird family. FAST is also in the process of completing the restoration of Hawker Hurricane AM274 and the ongoing work to get the Centaurus-powered Hawker Fury FB.10 OO-ISS flying.

A couple new additions (for the heck of it) for early 2019:

- Collings Foundation TP-40N 42-104721 (N293FR) - reported having been test flown at Chino. This is an evolution/rebuild/rebranding of the same aircraft that originally was at Evergreen, which was based on the wreck of P-40K 42-9749, recovered from Alaska where it had originally served in the Aleutians, and originally restored as a P-40K. Now the airframe has been rebuilt as a factory-built TP-40N with the serial number 42-104721 newly assigned, an identity from a wrecked & parceled-out P-40N that was recovered from New Guinea where it had originally served with the RAAF as A29-499.

- Tom Reilly XP-82 44-83887 (N887XP) - although unexpected, a first flight took place Dec. 31, 2018, and scheduled test flights are reportedly to begin being carried out this month.

I have updated the P-51 listing - the TF-51D 44-12858, that was completed by Airmotive Specialties a year ago and finished in only factory markings, now sports the markings of "Tiger's Revenge", the P-51D-5-NT 44-11342 that was the personal mount of Bill "Tiger" Lyons, who served with the 357th FS, 355th FG. The aircraft is owned by Ronald Lauder (Ellenville, LLC), based in New York. It is scheduled to appear at the Mid Atlantic Air Museum's WW2 Weekend in June. Unfortunately the name artwork is only loosely based on the way the original looked, and the prop spinner should be white and there should be two kill markings on the canopy. Still, I'm really glad to finally see a restored Mustang sporting Bill Lyon's markings!

The MAAM website also confirms what I had suspected, that the former Texas Flying Legends A6M2 Zero is now owned by Ronald Lauder as well, and is also scheduled to appear at MAAM's airshow in June. (Lauder is of course also the owner of the Spitfire Mk.1 P9374 and FG-1D Corsair "Godspeed".)
