The "gathering" in OH has two B-17s scheduled to attend. I'm pretty sure Thunder can do better than that, considering they had eight B-17s the last time they were the featured plane.

Its going to be intersting for sure. We may not see a mass gathering, but hopefully 4 or so. Add a few little friends and it will still be a cool show!!

And hopefully the Thunderbirds will do their show down the showline and not the runway. I was a little disappointed the last time. I still haven't seen a full TB show from start to finish.

As for little friends, comments on the TMA facebook page suggest P-47 "Hun Hunter XVI" is attending.

These 3 B-17's have never appeared to-gether. They will fly in formation each show day.

Cheers,

Tom Walsh.

So "Yankee Lady", "Madras Maiden" and "Texas Raiders"

Obviously, If you can throw a few other B-17's in the mix, please do.

Well, actually ;-) , at this time the "gathering" has one B-17 scheduled to attend. The NMUSAF has two flying in for the Memphis Belle rollout.

Madras Maiden is formerly Chuckie appeared at the 2005 Gathering
Texas Raiders appeared at the 2010 gathering and was having landing gear issues

I would guess that the cost to bring in a B-17 is quite a bit more than it would be for a fighter. To be honest I would rather see six or seven fighters than three B-17s. Even though this is my home town show I base my attendance on the aircraft attending and so far I'm not impressed.

I guess it would depend on the fighter type. While I like the Mustang, they are still pretty common in the warbird circuit and we usually have 5-6 of them any given year at Thunder. Personally I would rather see 3 B-17s in that case. However if you are talking more rare fighters like for example Planes of Fame in Chino is going to have FIVE P-38s flying in formation together, if that were coming to Thunder I would book my flight tonight to Detroit. If they could get 5-6 P-47s that would be something too.

Do yourself a favor and just book a flight to Ontario instead! The PoF airshow is unlike any other in this country in regards to the number and variety of "heavy metal" present. I feel VERY fortunate to live close enough to have attended many times in the last 30 years.

On my bucket list. I visited both Yanks and Planes of Fame when I was out in California summer 2016, great museum and hope they get that B-17 flying soon as well as Bataan Connie. Only thing I don't like about POF from a photographer's standpoint is you face Southeast and everything is backlit
