B-17F Flying Fortress (41-24585) Wulf hound.

Avia B-534 (older version) used by Luftwaffe for training purposes.

Avia B-534-IV used by Luftwaffe as glider tug on Eastern Front. Plane has winter camouflage and auxiliary fuel tank (well visible below the port bottom wing).

The jet in Japan is a Nakajima 'KIKKA' scaled down copy of the Me-262 which I believe flew for the first time on the day of Japans surrender-

the one that says Hannau is actually Fliergerhorst (Flea-ger-horst) means Flyers Nest, located near Hanau, Germany, was station 5 years there, looked pretty much the same, minus the scrap iron of course. Lots of bomb craters around it. It also had flack gun positions near the hangar on the right, it is located approximately 19km northeast of Frankfurt.

Well...maybe in the same way a Fw-190 is a "scaled down copy" of a P-47. Other than the general layout, the Kikka has nothing in common with the 262.

Great pics! Too bad a few more of those weren't preserved..but I can't say I blame the folks at the time for just wanting to put the whole war behind them.

Germany sent complete sets of plans for the ME-262 as well as the ME-163 to Japan in late 1944 via submarine, along with some parts. The ME-262 was assigned to Nakajima to produce, but the inferior metals available in Japan at the end of the war caused multitudes of problems, especially with the engines, and even more so with the Komet's rocket motor.

The NASM has the Kikka prototype in storage..but one of the engines is on display at Udvar-Hazy. Here are some pics I snapped a couple of years ago (I believe that's a Jumo 004 from a 262 in the background of pic #3.) I saw a pic of the aircraft once hanging in the rafters at Garber, with drop tanks installed where the engines should be..I seem to remember hearing somewhere that they only had one engine.
