It's not a "colorized" photo, but I think the tones are off. Not sure. Looks to have been stateside at the time of this photo.

Hey Mark -

Yep, it's accurate - this is a great example of the DuPont RAF equivalents of Dark Earth, Dark Green, and Sky Grey. I have two pretty decent sized fuselage skin sections from a recovered Lend-Lease P-40 with the colors still very vibrant on them, and they're almost a perfect match for this in strong sunlight.

I think this might be an old Rudy Arnold shot, but I'm not 100% positive on that.

Cheers,

Lynn

I can't believe no one has ever done a P-40E in these colors(the correct colors). Lots of P-40Es and Ks set to the Pacific in this color. From Darwin to New Guinea.

Looks about right. When trying to determine the correct colors in an old photo, look at the colors that you know are or should be correct.
In this case, the early war star (blue and red) looks about correct, though the contrast seems a bit to heavy. if they look pretty close, then
the rest shouldn't be too off.

Nice Picture of a early/mid production P-40E-1 (first 800 airframes), as stated DuPont RAF equivalents of Dark Earth, Dark Green, and Sky Grey (Sand and Spinach scheme), however the brown is Dupont 71-009 rather than one of the other brown colours that have been seen in some colour photos (darker and actually closer to RAF Dark Earth).

The P-40E-1 in the last photo is quite a late production and is quite faded, so hard to tell exactly what colour she was when she left the factory
