The Unofficial Oshkosh 2018 Thread

Tue Dec 12, 2017 10:10 am

Hello all!

So Oshkosh is due to be the usual week in July. No ACC demonstrations have been announced for Airventure so what do you think warbird restorations could be at Oshkosh next year?

Kermit Weeks has indicated in this update video his A-26 restoration should be there.

It would be fantastic if Kermit's A-26 was finished in time to attend Oshkosh. My wish list of aircraft that seem like somewhat realistic attendees:

Tom Reilly XP-82
John Dowd P-51A
Texas Flying Legends P-51C and F8F
B-26K "Special Kay"
BAHF C-97 "Angel of Deliverance"

There may also be a F4U-7 Corsair sporting a cool, new paint scheme. The owner has been to Oshkosh with his other aircraft before. I'm also hoping Jeff Kaney will bring his new F-5.

Oshkosh does appear on the latest version of the F-16 Demo schedule, which was posted yesterday.

This will be my fourth year in a row. I will probably also be going to the Sheboygan T-28 and CJAA event in addition to attending Oshkosh Monday-Wednesday. Looking forward to another awesome year!

I am torn between Oshkosh and Chino for next year. The one aircraft I really want to see is Dottie Mae.

When Jug drivers John Schoffner and Neal Melton bailed in 2017 due to weather, they expressed hope they'd be re-invited for Warbirds in Review. Hopefully Connie Bowlin got the message.

Earlier this year, World Heritage Air Museum verbally committed to bringing the Gloster Meteor T7

That is a good list of cool stuff. That said, I think the odds of Dusty bringing his A model are pretty slim. Why do I say this? Because he told me so. Its not that he doesn't want to bring it, its a matter of $$$$ and time. The plane is stunning and I was thrilled he agreed to roll the plane out at Reno so I could do a photo shoot. (See the Reno photo thread for my pics) I have no doubt it would be in the running for an award.

Latest Oshkosh press release states 2018 will be a year of classic jets. Already confirmed:

-Meteor T7
-Vampire
-Venom
-F-86
-MiG-17
-T-33

I wonder if Oshkosh will also try for classic jets like the F-100 or Collings F-4? Are there many other classic jet types out in America?

The EAA has a straight wing F-84 Thunderjet they roll outside every year. It would be nice to see it on the flight line with the other first generation jets. Would also like to see a CASA HA-200 twin engine jet. This was Willy Messerschmitt first post war design and next design after the ME-262.

The doctor is making a house call. B-29 Doc is returning to Airventure 2018.

Add more four-motor love: BAHF has made tentative plans to have both C-54 & C-97 attend.

I wonder if the Airventure 2018 event are planning on something for the Berlin Airlift 70th anniversary? With the strong possibility of the two B-29's returning and the C-97 and C-54 tentatively booked, it's certainly looking that way. I wonder if there will be a DC-3 gathering too, along with other aircraft associated with the period, e.g. CWHM Lancaster, a new C-121 restoration too maybe?

80th Anniversary of the T-6 will also be celebrated.

That Meteor looks like it needs about 30% more wing area!

I believe that there's hope that the CAF will be having That's All Brother flying by AirVenture. They had successful engine starts a few weeks ago.
