I was just there last week and the place is a mess. Displays moved around, signs with nothing, artifacts with no signs.
In addition to the B-17 moving in and out they are also updating the HVAC system. Areas are closed off around many of the displays. I recommend waiting until they have the big reveal in May for the Memphis Belle.

Aw nuts. This is the only opportunity I'll ever have to go there (my cousin's wedding, she's an Air Force doctor), but hopefully the prewar stuff is still accessible - were you able to see the B-10, B-18, A-17, P-35 and P-36 OK?

Yes the prewar area was OK, the B-10, B-18, A-17, P-35 and P-36 were unchanged
B-29 Box Car, and P-61, were partly covered in plastic due to HVAC work. Also some HVAC work around the WWI areas.
Yes LED lighting would be the best, going from the dark hangars into the new hangar 4 was like night and day.

In short, different materials are damaged at different rates. What is an acceptable damage level?

FYI - The National Archives has recently posted a boatload of raw color footage and outtakes (30+ postings, most ~20 minutes in length) from the making of "The Memphis Belle" on to YouTube.

Here's a link:

One can only hope that the NARA doubles efforts to digitize even more raw footage (combat camera, gun camera, and otherwise). I wonder how much footage hasn't been viewed since it was put in the can 70+ years ago?
