A bit off-topic, but I'm hoping some of the warbird veterans on this site can help out.

Back when it was still called the Confederate Air Force, they had the big uniform back-patch chits that had the "This is a CAF aviator..." The standard one said "revive with mint julep", but somewhere in the back of my mind (and most likely late 1970s/early 80's timeframe) I seem to remember a patch that had "fill with 115/145" or something to that effect instead of mint julip. Memory is slipping a lot these days, so I could very well have completely imagined the whole thing...but does anyone remember?

EDITED: My original posting was written using my telephone's keyboard. Typos and error are corrected in bold.

The "original" blood chit IIRC, read "this is a tebel pilot" versus later versions with"rebel aviator" (or is it the, other way around?)

The first one I saw with the 100 octane writing, was in 1981 at Airsho. It was being sold by the Arizona Wing, CAF.

I found a small version of this modified patch on my helmet bag. I have yet to find the full size patches.

Saludos

Tulio

This is one from my old CAF flight suit. Somewhere I think I have one with the old "Rebel aviator". Will post if I find it. Randy

Matt - were you by chance with the AZ SJ crew when they flew the "Don't Mess with Texas" commercial in the very early 1990s, with Reg in Gunfighter and myself in the Wildcat? Just curious.

It happens all the time. Usually with very little notice by anyone.

I have a large back patch and a smaller 'front' patch.
Space holder until I find them.

No, I believe that was filmed during one of Journey's extended stays at headquarters. The only out of state shows I did with the 17 was Chino a couple of times. I never had the funds to go out on a extended tour.

That it does. The first Redbird HQ event several folks from a CAF crew had them on their flight suits. Duct tape was used to cover the "Confederate" on the patch.

Warbirds n' stuff...... :supz:

I really appreciated the humor of the Confederate part. Too bad that has been corrupted by ninnies in the mainstream.

Maybe they should have had a Spitfire squadron named the Redcoat Air Force instead...
