I recently heard from a reputable warbird shipper that the A-26C Invader @ South Mountain High School is looking to be given away to make space.

I haven't called to confirm this but the word came from someone in the know, who ships a lot of warbirds.

He also mentioned that the CAF came to check it out but passed on it. Again, I can't personally confirm any of this but it came from a very good authority.

http://www.warbirdsandairshows.com/ariz ... guards.htm

"Phoenix: South Mountain High School A-26 This A-26 sits inside the school compound next to its aviation technology department building. In order to obtain these photos I had to go see the principal and sit in his waiting area before getting permission. I was assigned a security guard who then accompanied me to the A-26. Everyone was most helpful at the school with this photo shoot. The N26GT registration is not valid for this aircraft and at one time it was registered to an A-26C which was deregistered because it was "destroyed". It could be the school's aviation department restored the Invader. "

Looks like they also have plans to keep it, from the looks of this drawing of what the school might look like after some renovation:

Previously owned by Allied Signal, I was told it flew in" early 90's and was donated to the school and put in it's current location.

You might be right. I can add that the tip off I received was less than a month ago about this A-26 though, so maybe their plans/funding changed ?

There was no need to fly it in, it was flyable and based at Sky Harbor, about 10 miles to the north, it was towed there. It was used for engine testing, with the test engine being mounted on the nose

I was just out in Tucson (Pima) from March 11-16 disassembling a plane and was contacted by a fellow who asked the possibility of a trade for the Neptune. I looked at the plane and up close it needs a whole lot of work, anyways, the school decided that they are going to keep the A-26 right where it sits. From what I recall it is in fact On-Mark Marksman.
