I mailed Dave....after I saw their online for sale status.

I am really sad to hear they are leaving Vintage Wing in Canada and potentially Canada altogether.

Dave tks for sharing your summer flying and sharing experience online of the Lizzy with the Canadian community and how the kids loved it.

I also like how the VWC of Canada volunteers told me the story of how HS-554 was acquired from Bob Spence.

For whomever gets them....a caring place (and flying them is all I ask) is needed.

Cheers!

The prices aren't that high considering the rarity of the aircraft....and the overall price warbirds today.

well its about time!
this could be the start of a long awaited revolution.

Spitfires, ME109s, lancasters, and bearcats, all can benefit for such re engineering.
and all the ultra rare warbirds grounded for lack of an original power-plant.

Cant wait to see the first re engined Turboprop MK1 spitfire.
(may need longer gear legs though)

I once contemplated a Lancastrian with RR Dart turboprops, but even in 1/144 scale it was a lot of work!

I hope these two find new homes where they can continue to fly.

Don't forget the short-lived Dart B-17...

Or the early Dart Dakota conversions....

If B-17s were still used as fire bombers, I'd suppose someone would convert one to turbine power, rather like the Basler DC-3s.
I wonder if they'd use PT-6s or go with something larger?

As far as a model goes, is there a 1/144 Viscount kit you could get the nacelles and props from?

Other ideas for fanciful turbine conversions...
Tigercat
Mosquito
A-26

There is now, and quite cheap it is too! Unfortunately I sold the Lanc so would need to start over. My modelling skills should have caught up to my ambition now, 12yr later!

Peter: I'm 99% sure you're right in VH-UFO never flying with the Dart although I think it was run a few times. Lovely photo by the way! I know of another Peter A who could give us more info.

As far as turbine Mustangs go - and I know it's not really a Mustang - the Enforcer takes some beating. It just looks fun!

It was a CAC Mustang in Australia, reg was VH-UFO, and correct, it never flew with the Dart engine. The Merlin was put back on it and is now TF-51D N50FS.

Even if VH-UFO never flew with the Dart configuration, this one definitely did.

The Turbo Fish actually looks plausible, and it isn't bad looking.

The Dart-powered Mustangs just look goofy.

Just noticed on this side view of the Dart Mustang how different the side view outline is without the ventral tub for the radiator.

New pics for me. Tks for sharing
