Typical. This also happened recently in the RR preservation field, whereas a city paid someone to scrap a steam locomotive so they could use the land it sat on for other purposes. Someone came along and offered to buy the locomotive from the scrapper, the locals went nuts at the idea of it leaving (yet oddly seemed okay with the torches being brought out, originally) and they've blocked the whole deal:
