Is that p-38 currently flying on the circuit this year? Also, does anybody know how the restoration is going on the new b-17 they acquired?

FWIW, last month they came through Tucson with the B-17 (9-0-9), B-24, and P-51.

Last I saw was Rob Collings flew it into Gosshawk in Arizona, I thought they might be bringing her home...

The P-38 was flown at both the Los Angeles County Airshow and the Planes of Fame Airshow. Following the POF airshow it was flown to Texas (at least that was the last stop I recall it making). According to what I've read - combination Warbird Digest and Facebook postings - Collings is planning on having the paint removed/airframe returned to bare aluminum, and to add the markings of Tommy McGuire.

The Collings tour is here at Moffett NASA/Ames and they brought the B-17 "Nine-o-nine", B-24 "Witchcraft", B-25 "Tondelayo" and TF-51D "Toulouse Nuts.

I take that the Collings Foundation won't tell you? It would makes sense to go direct to the source before complaining about what this forum has offered so far.

When the 909 does stand down for well deserved maintenance, will both b-17s be operated at the same time when it’s done?

I guess there is an easy answer to a couple of questions here. First the P-38 either will or won't be in the circuit this year. Second, after 909 is through with all the maintenance, they both B-17's will tour together, or they won't. :D

I don't know about the "circuit," only that the P-38 is booked to appear, with the Spitfire, at the Great New England Airshow in July. My guess is that it will be flown home, kept in MA, and make the occasional appearance like this, but that's only a guess.

August

It will be odd to not see the 909 on tour. It has been such an iconic piece to aviation for such a long time. Plus I’m a fan of the paint scheme

I know the P-38 came through Denton, Texas a couple of weeks ago, headed to Florida. American Aero?

The new B-17 is going through some restoration in preparation to hit the road, it will be ready on Friday....just don't know which one. :axe:

When it comes on-line 909 will go into deep restoration.

Future? Unknown by us fans. :)
