A few years ago, I was able to climb through a C-47 here in Knoxville, TN. Located at the RAM (Remote Area Medical) hangar at Island Home Airport in Knoxville, this plane is used by RAM to aid in free medical clinics around the world. RAM (ramusa.org) was founded by Stan Brock of Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom fame. It was one of two C-47's that they had on the field but I haven't seen this one in a few years.

from Baugher: "38672 (MSN 6055) to USAAF Nov 29, 1942 - North Africa Wing ATC Mar 29, 1943 - 9th AF,
Netherlands 1944. Div to France Sep 08, 1947. To Aigle Azur Nov 26, 1947 as F-BEFF,
F Moreau/Avions Bleus jun 1951, UAT May 07, 1952 (Fitted with Pallas jet engines) and
Autrex Apr 01, 1954. Then to French AF Nov 17, 1955 ax ‘38672’. Operated
by GLA45 Dec 1955, GT3/62 ‘F-ASP’ Jan 1958, GLA45 ‘F-SCDC’ oct 1958, ELA56 ‘F-SCOA’
Jun 1962, GT1/63 Jun 1964, GAMOM81 Oct 1964, ELA70 Jan 1966, ELA54 1969. Returned to
civil registry as F-OGFJ (J P le Cozannet Jul 25, 1973, operated with Air Antilles colours -
Satair, Le Lamentin, operated with Air Martinique colors 1979). Noted for sale, Opa Locka,
FL. May 27, 1983, registered N4550J Dec 1983 for F V Moos and leased to
Dodson International Air. Cancelled."

The other plane they have is featured on this website: http://www.john2031.com/airports/knoxvi ... hotos.html

Baugher sez: 93076 (MSN 12947) W/o Apr 9, 1944, Fairfax Field, Kansas City, Missouri

Next weekend RAM will hold their annual "Salute to Service Celebration", and as always, they mention that their C-47 flew over Normandy on D-Day.
Can anyone confirm that either of these planes "flew over Normandy on D-Day"?

Thanks!

Dave

Well, it's certainly possible - here's a pic of 672 unloading an engine at Oran, Algeria in June 1943:

Your post spurred me to do some digging on finding a definitive list of D-Day aircraft, I'm sure it's out there but I'd like to know how to identify which aircraft flew in which formation, and carried which units... someone has that info, because I see it pop up all the time. :)
