Can any WIX member advise me of the current location and status of Jim Slattery's Catalina (originally a Canso A) N427CV. It remains registered to one of his companies in Colorado but following its much heralded arrival in San Diego some while back all has gone quiet, at least from my vantage point in the UK.

David,

You may have seen this stuff already?? Sorry if it's old news.

The video at the link shows a PBY at the National Museum of WWII Aviation in Colorado Springs as one of the new additions in 2016. You could email them to see if the one in the vid is indeed the one in question and where it is currently hiding. The FAA says it's registry was updated in Jan 2018 to "Pissed Away" there.

Here's a vid of it in Germany in December 2012.

Good luck....John

As far as I know, the Slattery PBY is still on display at the National Museum of WWII Aviation in Colorado Springs, with some of his other warbirds. It was flown at the Pikes Peak Airshow last year - some photos of it here:

Thanks for the helpful replies - Colorado Springs it is. I think the reference to Germany in the video is erroneous. It has never been to Germany and in 2012 it was in South Africa. Thanks again guys.

David, I got the impression it was on it's way back to the states in December 2012 and passed thru Germany on the return?? The timeline matches up.

This was the route: Rand – Lanseria - Walvis Bay, Namibia - Luanda, Angola - Yaoundé, Cameroon - Monrovia, Liberia; - Natal, Brazil - French Guiana - Trinidad, Panama - Costa Rica - Tijuana, Mexico - Brown Field, San Diego, CA and Gillespie Field, San Diego. Nowhere near Europe sadly!

Ok...upon further review, there are at least two Heidelberg's. One in Germany and one in SA. The caption above the vid just says "Heidelberg".

This is a nice pic of a DC-3 at that SA airfield on Google Earth. Side number is ZS-GPL which shows as delivered to the USAAF as Skytrain 42-23719 on 22 May 1945
