Did Jimmy Doolittle actually OWN the famous Lockheed Orion Shellightning, or was it simply one of Shell's corporate-owned aircraft, which Doolittle flew and frequently raced? I suspect the latter is the case, but I have seen references to his having bought the airplane from Shell and actually "owning" the airplane.

Fact: it was one of Shell's corporate-owned aircraft.
I do not believe he had the time to buy it, because of WWII
