I am looking for information on PV1 Ventura nose art. It appears on many PV1's, RNZAF operated aircraft included, and could be "factory' applied. It looks like a Gold coloured star set upon two wings and sometimes includes a gold scroll aft.
See attached pic. Does anyone have a close up ?

Hmm, interesting. I cannot say I have noticed that on RNZAF examples, Barf. I'll keep an eye out now though.

I have seen similar art work on some P-38s, and they were related to former Lockheed employees killed in action, "in memoriam of....", if I remember correctly.

Finally had a hit with internet searches, see this link- Memorial emblem for Lockheed plant employee, 1943 -- International Association of Machinists, District Lodge 727 :: San Fernando Valley History

http://digital-library.csun.edu/cdm/ref ... SFVH/id/40

Confirms many things even though it lacks the fine detail. I wonder if records were kept of who's names went on what aircraft?

Barf,

I wonder if you would have any luck with more detailed photos by trying the Life Magazine photo archive. You might have to try different variations of you search to get a hit, but it might be worth a shot.
