During WW2 the Dutch East Indies was overrun by the Japanese military.
All the Dutch tried to escape and some made it to Australia. The military personnel here formed with the Royal Australian Air Force, 18 SQN NEIAF which became a combined Dutch/Aussie unit. Based in NSW, ACT and NT at various times and overseas late in the war, this unit flew the B-25 Mitchells bombers.
Last year in Adelaide, at Reevers Warbirds - Australia, I was partially involved in helping to make a special event and honour the 18 SQN members and the Reevers B-25 Mitchell warbird.
At this event we had 3 of Australias last surviving WW2 era 18 SQN veterans filmed for a documentary.
After some time here is the trailer film into a very forgotten part of Dutch and Australian history, where men rose to the challenge to defend Australia in its darkest hour..
