Hi oz rb fan,
This flight happened about two years ago, when some oversized mining/electrical equipment needed delivered from overseas. I am just slow in downloading them.
Cheers,
DADE.

As we were taxiing in from landing at PHL many years ago, I saw the An 225 sitting on the cargo ramp. I had never seen it in person before then. I was stunned at how big it was! There was a story in the Philadelphia Inquirer about it. They were going to use it to transport some very large electrical transformers from the USA to Turkey.

Thought I would jump back in just in case it means two places. Perth, W.A. is Perth, Western Australia.

Was this during an airshow? Lots of people and crowd control for just a delivery flight coming in...

Beyond enjoying the sunshine and going to the beach we don't have much to do in Perth so we enjoy the arrival of significant types that have not flown into Perth before (747 Concorde, A380 An -124 & 225 etc). Large crowds go out to see them.
I remember going out to the airport as a kid to see the first 747 arrive. It still stands out how much bigger it was than the 707 and equivalents.

A related question. Many nights at about 10.30pm I hear a plane fly over my house, heading east (inland to the airport) from over the ocean. It sound slower and rumbles more than the typical jet. I suspect an An-12 or something similar and I saw one of these heading the opposite direction one day when I was... at the beach.
Does anyone have any information on these flights, by whom, purpose and from where (Indonesia?)

This is what occurs any time the Antonov OKB fleet arrives or departs pretty much anywhere: it's the same with the An-22 and quite rightly so. If I hadn't already seen them myself I would travel long distances to see them. The An-22 in particular produces a sound that only folks who've seen a B-36 or a Bear in action can appreciate.

A few weeks ago I went out to our local airport and much to my surprise there was an AN-124 parked out in the freight area.

I have no idea what it was doing here, I didn't see any mention of it in the local media.

In 1998, I was passing through Gander and one was parked on the nearby transient ramp. It looked like it had been there awhile.
A few weeks later, I was on my way back and there were two there, the second brought in a spare engine and some GSE to get the job done.
