Got to poke around that airplane while with the 29. Sad shape.....seemed like a nice guy and hopeful he could get it going again. Guess not.

Sad shape as in "irreparable corrosion", or "too much missing" or...?

From what I saw, both. As with most projects of this sort, great big bags of money can fix just about anything.

The auction was cancelled and the plane has been sold to Buffalo Airways.
They are planning on restoring it in time to fly it on the 80th D-Day Anniversary and back to Oshkosh for 2019.

Fortunately Buffalo Airways has a lot DC-3/C-47 experience. :wink:

edit for 75th to 80th anniversary change and 'to fly' not attend- my mistake

If anybody here can come up with the paint scheme and markings information for her I'll see that it gets to the right guy. She can't go to Normandy in civvy colors!

Wow, just 6 months from where/how it is to flying over Normandy?
I would hope they have a lot of C-47-DC-3 experience!
Don't get me wrong, I wish them all the luck and hope they make it, but that's a really short timeframe from what I'm looking at...

I doubt you'll see this one at Normandy. If one gets sent one over for the 75th it'll probably be -WZS which is a daily flyer and a D-Day vet also. I read Mike's tweet this afternoon that he wants to have this one flying by June, and then at Oshkosh a month later. But the standing safe bet is to just never underestimate the Buffalo crew when it comes to pulling off a mechanical miracle!

I think you guys are reading more into it than is there. Mikey said "we are going to try and fly her on the 80th (sic 75th) Anniversary of D-Day where she sits in Montreal." I don't see how this says they are going to Normandy. To me it sounds they hope to fly her on D-Day in Montreal where the plane is currently located.

From the Book of Face;
Avialogs DC-3 project has been sold to Buffalo Airways, message from Mikey McBryan : Well folks, I bought a “new” DC-3. This isn’t just any regular goonybird though. This bird flew in the D-Day invasion! Her log books (FZ668) even mention she dropped 12 twenty pound bombs as she flew to her drop site that morning. Making her a D-Day “Bomber”. She hasn’t flown in almost 30 years and guess what... we are going to try and fly her on the 80th Anniversary of D-Day where she sits in Montreal. This will be a huge undertaking as this aircraft has been stripped out over the past three decades. But luckily enough we know where is lots of DC-3 parts. After that we plan to fly her to Oshkosh Airventure 2019 so you guys can see her in person. "

Giant shipping containers of money can fix most anything.......Like a container ship full of shipping containers full of money.
Oh...and dont forget time and people.

It can be done. Good luck. We're all counting on you.

BTW, if you follow Mikey on Instagram and/or Facebook, you'll see additional updates and previews of what's going on, like the fact he's actually got a title graphic now thanks to a follower, so the 2 days of "title sheet" are already over. :lol:
