English and German prewar designs did posses what can be best described as a "gothic" aesthetic. While German design did evolve somewhat as the war progressed, the British did not (at least to the same extent).

An good example of this would be the Fairey Barracuda, which looked as if a gargoyle from a medieval cathedral had come to life and bolted from its chains.

Well I mainly was hoping to stir up conversation. The Ki 115 looks awkward on the ground but remember it has jetisonable landing gear and would've been quite sleek in the air. Reminiscent of the 1930's air racers. Agreed, could benefit from a canopy redesign.
The Nakijima Nikka looks very nice and sleek. Seems like I saw it at the Smithsonian or Chino. Very well proportioned except the tail looks amateurishly designed.
The Aichi B7A looks like a pretty good airplane. Only the Skyraider can argue to be a better looking design. Not as brutish looking as the later Martin AM-1 Mauler. Built four years before the Skyraider prototype. We are lucky they weren't mass produced. FUlly enclosed landing gear and streamlined tailwheel. Looks nice.
