Mann Gulch Smokejumper C-47 to go to D-Day Overflight

The C-47 that dropped smokejumpers on the fatal Mann Gulch Fire in 1949 is to head for France this May according to Fire Aviation and the Missoula’s newpaper. The actual commemoration flight, of course, takes place in June. Sorry about just providing links again.

Good to see!
I've been meaning to go to Missoula to see the museum...
have lunch at Fuddruckers,
and visit the grave of Kirby Grant...Sky King.

Wasn't that C-47 also the one that ditched in the Ohio River post war on a military charter...leading to the deaths of many military personnel?

We go in there a few times a year. We fly Hank Williams , Jr. to his ranch near Hamilton. The C-47 looks to be in very nice shape in the museum. It's all there and looks "flyable." No telling how many years it's been since it was annualled and it will require plenty of money to fly it again. The cockpit is intact and it's a nice static example.
