What makes em "not suitable for flight purposes"? Is there any links to photos?

Very interesting, though the title of the thread may be somewhat misleading according to the proposal:

"The NMUSAF may disposition excess museum items through a
documented exchange process, but not by direct sale" (I added the italics and underline).

Sounds like that might mean money.
I speak Air Force (bureaucracy).

I'd like to see the Western Antique Automobile and Airplane Museum ...They have a great collection of L-types a L-13 would be a nice addition and they might have a use for the other aircraft.
Of course if the NMUSAF wants only a trade, I don't know what they (or most other museums that might want a Luscomb and Ercoupe) could offer Dayton.

I wonder if they could be made flyable or as a condition of the trade they can not

I'm sure the NMUSAF would prefer they not fly as a simple matter of CYA, but unless they vandalize (I'm sure they'd call it demil) the aircrafr, I'd think they could be made to fly. Unless their structural integrity was such (i.e. corosion, wood rot, etc.) was the reason for them ending up in the museum in the first place.

When I took the behind-the-scenes tour a few years back, I do believe it was the L-13A that I was the most interested in. It was really neat! I just do not get the powers that be. Needs to be retained and go on display dang it.
