I found the preliminary NTSB report, but its pdf and the site won't allow me to upload it? :?

Quote:
Multiple witnesses located near the accident site reported observing the airplane flying on a north eastern heading at a low altitude when it performed a "barrel roll." Several witnesses reported that after the maneuver, the airplane "wobbled [from] side to side" before the airplane's canopy separated. Shortly after, the airplane entered a steep right turn, and descended into the ground in a nose low attitude.

Yes, of the N9M. There is an N1M preserved and on display however.

Tragic, and there is nothing wrong with lamenting the loss of both man and machine - I commend the spirit, dedication [and financial commitment] that it takes to get a rare bird like this into the air.

In my mind, getting that plane flying in displays was a crowning achievement for POF. A large team of dedicated volunteers worked on it for many years, myself included. I'm glad it was flown. It was an amazing sight to see it in the air.

I didn't get to see it fly, but saw it on the ground a couple of years after they got it off the ground.

I'm very sad someone perished in it, but think the restoration and subsequent flight demonstrations were an amazing accomplishment.

I got to see it fly in 2000 out at Gillespie Field in El Cajon, CA. It was a truly amazing sight to see flying.

I visited Chino on a Sunday in 2000 totally unaware that a Planes of Fame airshow was taking place that day - what an unexpected treat after being at the CAF Airsho at Midland the previous day! The N-9M was amongst those aircraft flown, the only true flying wing I've seen displayed I think.

Very sad accident...
