Please forgive me if question has been asked before, I searched the WIX archives with no luck. I have an old Aircam aviation profile series on the B-17 and it says B-17G 42-31909 was fitted with the new Cheyenne turret in early 1945. There are dozens of pictures out there of 909 but of course they only focus in on the nose art. I could have sworn I saw a picture of her at one time with a new unpainted Cheyenne turret, possibly at Kingman before she was scrapped. I have a B-17G project (model) that's been kicking around for almost 20 years, bird is painted as a 91st BG but haven't marked it yet, was going to make "Dreambaby" 42-32025 but couldn't figure out what the cloud-like thing under its nose art spelled out so I was going to go with 909 if it did in fact have the Cheyenne mod. Any help would be greatly appreciated, I know if anybody has an answer it would be you guys! Ed

For what it’s worth, the guys that go bananas on this stuff are the model builders. They have the ability to be so accurate with resin mod kits and several decades of research backing them up. The hyper scale forum in this case is pretty interesting. There are many interesting comments in the thread.

All very interesting indeed. As it stated field mods were the norm as the war went on. Also I've noted what looks like low vis bray applied the the national fuelage markings on B-17's/B-24's and fighters. What's the reference for this practice>?
