DC-7B N4887C, after losing engine #3 during its initial ferry attempt back in July, is due for a 2nd attempt shortly from Phoenix-Mesa Gateway to the Delta Flight Museum in Atlanta.

Delta leased a replacement engine from Erickson Aero Tanker to accomplish the flight, the failed engine to eventually be reinstalled in the airframe for static display. This would seem to squelch any hopes that she might make an airshow appearance or two in 2020 before being grounded permanently. :(

I see on Google Maps at the Delta Museum a DC-9 outside and a larger base next to it that would lead someone to expect a bigger bird to sit there soon. Is this where the DC-7 will end up?

As far as Delta grounding the plane permanently, I'd say their is always a possibility. Some of there aircraft were restored to flight or have flown since becoming part of the museum. Anything could happen down the road.

Leased an engine? So what does that outfit leasing the engine use it or them for? Do they have a DC7? I didn't think many outfits were flying DC7's now???

Okay found Ericson website, and can see why the CA fires rage, looks like no piston planes allowed?
It says that 2 DC7's are available for international work???????????????? I find that very strange.

Thanks for that, Chris.

Any chance you'll be on the scene? We're counting on that livestream...

I wasn't there, but I heard that they did take off, but returned to Gateway after some unknown period of time. Supposedly it will be at least a week until they try again.

FLYBY!!

Nice that someone caught that. Beautiful noise. I remember seeing it fly at Thunder Over Michigan the same year they had all the Forts there. Was not expecting to see it and then as we were coming into town, it flew over us on final. Beautiful.
