Nice set. Though I do think I see a USAAF "Corsair" masquerading as a P-66. Or is that vice versa?

Great shot in there of an F6F "flying bomb" drone in the Korean War, along with its Skyraider controller. :supz:

I see a Corsair coming aboard a carrier that's not only turning, but has it's island on the wrong side!

Yes, no doubt. Interesting though that he's right there over the end of the deck and the ship is maneuvering like that.

Might I suggest that what you see is exactly the truth. The deck number is 118 and is oriented properly in relation to where the island would be. Also 118 corresponds to USS Sicily CVE 118. I've read that WWII generation aircraft carriers could recover planes while traveling in reverse. Not that it was done a lot but the capability was there. Maybe this was an exercise, test, or proof-of-concept. After all, they also shot Hellcats from catapults mounted on the hanger deck of larger carriers.

Agree with Snake45, pic is flipped. Carrier deck numbers are read 118 at bow and stern, from the stern end, as if you were landing normally into the wind with ship full speed into wind, you would read 118 and not 811. The ships wake tells you which way it’s moving. If retrieving aircraft by full reverse ,which ships could and practiced doing so ,but this is not the case.

OK, I agree. I was hearing the sound of hooves and thinking zebras instead of horses.

This shot should make it easier to tell the photo is flipped.
