Funnily enough, an over-scale movie prop is being converted to an exhibit at Classic Flyers, Tauranga, NZ

The article states:

"The application for filming states that the production wants to ‘recreate the airbase on the airfield’.

It goes on: “There will be no flying, although the runway will be used to film aircraft landing and there will also be aerial photography over the runway of planes taxiing.”

So no flying suggests there's no need to contact aircraft owners

Though surely active/period aircraft will have to be used for landing and taxying sequences?

Authentic control tower & fire truck shed already constructed, full size 17 now standing on its feet, some chap has supplied around 300 cycles & some locals are getting cheesed off even before filming has started.

OH - I am SO going to beg for those airframe movie props once filming is done since the originals BOTH would have been here at Wendover Airfield!

I'd imagine there's a line of folks there in the UK ahead of you, as plenty of folks there would give their left... whatever to get their hands on one of these.

Hope your museum will draw up a proposal and promote, promote, promote! (And CC to Tom Hanks.)
Especially if you have hangar space and can keep it out of the elements. You guys deserve it!

Your best bet would be to type that proposal up on a typewriter and maybe send one along as a gift with your submission.

it's killing me I can't post it, but I found a shot taken of one of the B-17 mockups sitting with the side peppered with light flak and maybe MG rounds. It's very well done.
I can't upload a photo as big as it is, and neither my cell nor my work computer can simply resize the thing. Arrgh!
If you want to see shots of them, someone' posting photos from the set here, if you're a member:
