Boeing B-17E 41-2647 Test bed ...

According to J Baugher's site.

"Boeing B-17E Fortress 41-2647 delivered to Wright Jun 1, 1942; transferred to Newark Apr 15, 1943; transferred to Wright Apr 22, 1943; transferred to ASF Phillips, Maryland Apr 22, 1946."

Curtiss Wright at Caldwell NJ had several propeller test aircraft during and shortly after the war. Boeing B-17 41-2647 was used for such Propeller Testing.
You will notice the Curtiss props in the photo below.

What is with the shiny leading edge of the wings ?
Just where de-icing strips have been removed ?
