I think as of a few years this was still there in Riverside. It might still be there today.

5178 Rubidoux, Riverside, CA. Street view dates to 2014; satellite is probably more current and it's still there.

One thing I can't quite figure out: Is the black-and-white photo flipped, or is this one of the C-46s built with cargo doors on both sides?

Aha! Mark, do you have a larger version of this one? Scott Thompson (aerovin) has been looking for years for a postwar shot of that B-17G (43-38978) for his RFC/WAA B-17 page!

I wish I took a picture of the P-51 sitting in an empty lot on the side of a road in Brewerton, near Syracuse NY. My uncle took me there and I looked the plane over.

Happily, this airplane is now known as "Geraldine"

The Northwest pilot working on his P-51 is most likely M. W. "Lee" Fairbrother. He worked for Northwest and owned numerous warbirds including Spitfire 24 N7929A. He also raced this P-51D in Cleveland after Ortman had sold it. I have seen a photo of it in the black colors noted here parked outside his home.

My favorite kind of thread. If I knew what was down at Chris Stoltzfus place in Southern Chester County PA when I was a kid, I'd have begged my family to take me there....

Does anybody have a photo of a BT-13B that was in a backyard in Albany NY until 2002 or so? I own it now.

The Corsair in the first picture is at NAS Olathe now New Century AirCenter. The building underneath the engine was torn down sometime in the early 2000's when the Navy turned it over to the Chinook unit based at the field. The building behind the tail with the garage doors is still there. The ramp where this picture is taken was between the two main Naval hangars. The south one was torn down but the north one with the control tower is still there with the Chinook unit.

Waco CG-4 Gliders

During WWII there were about 14,000 of the type produced for an average price of $15,000 each. They were sold post-war for $75.00...still in their original wooden shipping crate from the factory. Suprisingly, quite a number of these CG-4's were sold to the public BUT NOT because they wanted the glider. They wanted the "shipping crate"! The crate was delivered to a specific home address where the CG-4 was extracted and hauled off to the city dump. The crate was then divided up between a number of participating neighbors where they were re-purposed into garden tool storage units, ham radio shacks, hobby rooms and the like.
