Looks like a fun project, but Mrs. K says, "No".

She's the smart one, but it still looks like fun, no? :drink3:

$35,000 buy-it-buy, or best offer seems like a particualrly motivated seller. I am surprised that an apparently near-ready flyer would be selling for a price that low. Is there something that I do not know about the market?

It is partially wooden. It is 70 years old. And it is in pieces.

What could be wrong?

So, it could be a wooden sailboat in the same condition, for the same price... Not sure which is more scary.

The upside with the Vampire is that I know where a parts plane is.

The Vampire probably reached it's height in popularity and value on the civil market in the 1970's. There were a few imported and flying and they had spectacular performance. Jet fuel was very cheap and they use an immense amount. Jet fuel was around 25 cents USD. and half the cost of avgas. Former Swiss Air Force airplanes are typically very well maintained. However, this one has been in storage for many decades and can't be expected to just assemble it and go fly.
Back in the 1970's there were only a couple of flyable F-86's. maybe a half dozen T-33's and no L-29's, L-39's, Iskras, Mig 17/19/21s , T-37s or T-2 to be had. It was a very big deal to see a civilian military jet at an airshow. The closest thing to flying a military jet would have been a Morane Saulnier " Paris" jet.

For the right person this would not be bad - there is a lot of knowledge and support via the Classic Jet Aircraft Association. But, as I was once told, remember purchase price is the admission ticket to the park. . . .
