This was found in a house clearance in UK.

It is a Weber made USAF crew seat top section. - made to Mil Spec 7582. It is also called a crew seat Type E-1.

The seat base was not present.

There is a data plate with a Weber inspectors stamp ; what looks like a Weber part number and an AF order number.

There is also a stamped aluminium tag with 00726.

From a little research the Mil Spec 7582 was started in1954 ( replacing spec 45009).
It was updated to Spec 7582A in 1958 and 7582B in 68 and amended in 78 before being canceled in 2014.

The spec asks for seats to be marked as 7582 ( irrespective of Mod).

I have seen a couple of these for sale marked as Korea or WW2 ( despite being stamped USAF)

From looking at various cockpits it seems to have been used in C-97(KC-97); C-124; C-131; C-133 and B-36 ( and I am sure others). But not C-119, C-135; c-54; B-52 and the C-130 used swivel seats but the later Type E-Mod.

N.B. The Stratocruiser was not US Government property and used civilian seats.

They seem to be a variety of makers ( as well as Weber) and they were painted grey, green etc. in use. This one has silver paint on the top steel section. Not all had arms and some had seat belt mounts on the inside and others on the outside of the frame etc.

Can anyone date this variant and also suggest any of the aircraft that it was used in that would have been used in Uk or scrapped in UK ?

Thanks for any thoughts.
