Republic P-47D-11-RE Thunderbolt 42-75587 (MSN 3938) 379th FS [B8-V], 362nd FG, 9th AF, Headcorn, Station 412; "Lil' Sunshine";
Damaged taxying at Thurleigh (Station 111), Bedfordshire 3May44. The fighter had turned off the runway
after landing but struck an area of soft cement which the Clerk of Works had left unmarked. The plane nosed over,
damaging the right wing and undercarriage. Both tires burst and the propeller was ruined.
Pilot survived, aircraft badly damaged, unknown if repaired.
